I loooveee K's entry (topic) bout ways to calm down an angry person dlm her blog. Then surfing2 jumpa dis wan..
Tips to help you understand and deal with other people’s anger:
Dos
1) Listen to an angry person’s account on why they are angry, even if you don’t agree to their facts. When someone is angry, its not the best time to have a rational debate. Just focus on hearing them out.
2) Try to see their point of view and let them know you understand. Feeling misunderstood and disagreed with at the same time will keep their anger in control. If you let them know that you see where they are coming from, you will o a long way towards helping them overcome their anger.
3) Remove yourself from the situation if you see the person is getting out of control. Your personal safety is more important than being polite. When in doubt, clear out.
Don’ts
1) Don’t just tell the person to clam down because it doesn’t work. It will backfired and just make things worse because its obvious you are not listening.
2) Don’t allow their anger to ignite yours. An angry person will say things to provoke you to be as angry as they are. Focus your attention on understanding their feelings and not what they say about you.
3) Don’t try to shame or ridicule them. It will only fan the flames of anger and they will be more justified to get angry.
4) Don’t attempt to engage them in a debate. They are not going to be in the mood and you are wasting your time. Save the accuracy and the facts for a cool headed discussion.
5) Do not take on an unatural calm tone. This does nothing to soothening or calm an angry person. It simply make them more aware that you don’t understand them and trying to manipulate them.
Anger does not have to be scary but trust your instint and get out of it if you think that the person is getting out of control. Remember, when in doubt, clear out!
